Guide to choosing a LED ribbon

HOW TO CHOOSE AN LED RIBBON?

Today, LED DECORATIVE LIGHTS are currently more and more popular.  LED strips are one of the most common products on the market, whether for lighting below kitchen cabinets or for creating mood lighting and more.
When comparing LED strips, they all have differences and there are certain parameters that can help us determine which ones are most appropriate for each use.
The following features will help us choose an LED ribbon that fits our needs:
 1. Voltage.
2. Power.
3. Type of chip/chip.
4. The number of LEDs per meter of tape.
5. The flexibility of the ribbon.

6. The color or color temperature of the LEDs.
7. The degree of Importability (IP Rating).
8. The power source / Transformer.

1. VOLTAGE:

SMD chip LED ribbons to operate in DC voltage (the most usual at 12, 24 or 230 volts). That is why we will need an AC-DC power supply, which converts the AC current into DC power and in turn transforms the working voltage of the ribbon.
The maximum length of the ribbon segments depends on its voltage: thus, a 12V LED ribbon supports a connection length of up to 5 meters and a 24V ribbon can connect up to 10m and a 230V LED ribbon up to 50m.
230 volt LED strips only need a converter, supplied by the manufacturer itself and with which you get savings in hardware and installation (no need for additional drivers or transformers).

2. THE POWER:

LED chips are a highly efficient form of lighting. However, depending on the model, some chips use more or less energy to determine if the energy efficiency of a LED strip is sufficient. The number of lumens produced must be divided by the number of watts it produces (" lumens/watts").

3. THE SIZE AND TYPE OF SMD LED:

The size of the LEDs affects the luminous flux. Four LED models are available:

SMD 3528

Size of the LEDs: 35mm x 28mm - soft light.
Power: 0.07 W. / Led.
Small and not very powerful, they can be grouped in large quantities. Ideal for indoor lighting or for up-close lighting (shelves, stairs or window frames or paintings).

SMD 5050

Size of the LEDs: 50mm x 50mm - brilliant light.
Power: 0.24 W. / Led.
This chip, 40% larger than the SMD 3528, contains three light emitting chips and allows the LEDs a wider output. Ideal for commercial and domestic use (high ceilings, indoor and outdoor lighting ...).

SMD 5630

Size of the led: 56mm x 30mm - super bright light.
Power: 0.25 W. / Led.
The SMD 5630 LED is one and a half times more powerful than a 5050 SMD LED and is perfect for commercial and domestic lighting (high ceilings, indoor lighting for large and outdoor spaces, large rooms ...).

SMD 2835

LED size: 28mm x 35mm - very bright light.
Power: 0.15 W. / Led.
The SMD 2835 led is the most efficient. It contains a larger heat sink and generates more intense light. Ideal for commercial and domestic use (high ceilings, interior lighting for large space and exterior, large rooms ...).
